More than a century ago, social change in Europe was accompanied by a marked increase in cases of hysteria and conversion. At that time, Freud's efforts to understand what was being expressed through physical symptoms led to the birth of psychoanalysis. Today, our world is once again on the brink of transformation, shaken by wars, migrations, violence, poverty on the one hand, and pandemics, climate crises, earthquakes on the other. Freud's concept of the "uncanny" and his work "Civilization and its Discontents" shed light on these experiences.

All these processes, which point to the collapse of words, the loss of meaning in language and the preoccupation with the mental processing of the inexpressible, shake us all, directly or indirectly. "Shattered World and Echoes of the Unspoken" evokes the lingering effects of unexpressed thoughts and emotions in the realm of psychoanalysis. It suggests exploring the aftermath of trauma or inner turmoil, where the world feels shattered and the unspoken echoes haunt the individual's consciousness. The echoes of the shattered world came into our session rooms in different ways. In this conference we would like to think and talk together about how we experience, analyse and deal with the tremors of the outside world when they enter our session rooms.
